From Shower to Shave: The Perfect Men’s Grooming Routine

From Shower to Shave: The Perfect Men’s Grooming Routine

Gentlemen, let’s talk about the daily ritual that sets the tone for the day ahead: your grooming routine. Most likely, this routine is something you haven’t tweaked much over time, but like anything, even small changes have a big impact. Getting this right not only helps you look and feel your best, it also keeps you in good health.

At Lathr, we’re always out to try to help you look and feel your best, so let us guide you through the perfect grooming routine for men.

  1. The Shower: This is Where it All Begins

In the shower, you’re not only cleaning your skin, you’re prepping it for a smooth shave. Use a men’s soap with a bit of grit to it to exfoliate your skin. This process removes dirt, grime, and dead skin cells, so don’t skip it. Using warm water in the shower opens your pores, which will help make shaving a lot easier.

  1. Pre-Shave Prep: No Razors Just Yet

Guys who already use pre-shave oil know what I’m talking about here. This product is a critical step, as it prepares your skin before the shave. It’s at this point that we want to moisturize the skin, protect it from the harshness of the razor, lubricate the skin, and reduce irritation caused by razor burn.

  1. Lather Up: Shaving Cream Time

Use a high quality shaving cream that smells good. Apply a couple of pumps into the palm of your hand and gently massage it onto your face, getting even coverage throughout. This step hydrates and softens the skin, ensuring a smooth and comfortable shave.

  1. The Shave: Smooth and Easy

Make sure to use a sharp razor and move it in the direction of the hair growth. Some guys go against the grain, leading to a closer shave but this also may increase the risk of irritation. Let your skin tell you what it prefers. Don’t rush, take it nice and easy.

  1. Post-Shave Pampering: Time for a Cool Down

Your skin is sensitive right now, so help it heal quickly by using an aftershave lotion. This step reduces irritation, hydrates, reduces redness, and soothes the skin. A couple of pumps into the palm of your hand and you’re ready to massage it into your skin.

  1. Cologne: Apply Your Signature Scent

Every man has that signature scent that defines them. Whether you use a spray or a solid cologne, it’s time to bring it out. Apply a little to areas like the neck, wrist, behind the ears, and you’re good to go.

There you have it, fellas! Lathr’s guide to the perfect grooming routine for men.

Have fun with it.
