First, what "solid" actually means

A solid stick is the classic: twist the bottom, a little pushes up, swipe it on. Ours - we call it Powder Glide - is built on a tapioca and arrowroot base for that dry, powder-smooth finish, so you feel put-together the second you're dressed, not damp.

But the base isn't the star. The real work happens with zinc ricinoleate - a premium odour-neutralizer most brands leave out because it costs more. Here's what makes it different: cheap deodorants either perfume over the smell or just kill some bacteria and hope for the best. Zinc ricinoleate actually traps the odour molecules themselves and neutralizes them. It's the difference between covering the problem and removing it - and it's the ingredient doing the heavy lifting in every Powder Glide stick.

The trade-off people worry about with solids is the white mark. Fair - a lot of solid sticks do leave one, especially the aluminum ones (that white smear is often aluminum reacting with sweat, and it's the same stuff that yellows your white shirts over time). Ours skips the aluminum entirely, so the residue is minimal and brushes off. But if you live in dark colours and "minimal" isn't "zero," keep reading.

Now, what "clear" actually means

Clear deodorant is formulated to go on invisible - no white layer sitting on your skin at application. That's the entire pitch, and it's a good one if you've ever thrown on a black shirt in a hurry and spent the day with two chalky stripes under your arms.

Here's the part the big brands won't tell you: most "clear" sticks pull off that transparency with alcohol or a soap-gel base. Alcohol-based clear sticks are exactly the ones that sting when you've just shaved. So "clear" has historically come with a catch.
